Writing your own wedding vows can feel a little scary, after all, it is you summoning up your love and the promises you make to your partner for the rest of your life... No pressure? Right? Right! A lot of couples feel overwhelmed when thinking about writing their vows, but I want to help relieve some of that stress!
Let's get those creative juices flowing and tell your unique love story together. I am going to share with you my top tips for writing the perfect wedding vows that will not leave a dry eye in the room!
Start Early & Brain Dump Often
Try not to speed write your vows the day before the wedding. Instead, start early and jot down little things that come to mind when you're with your partner. Use your phone or a little notebook to capture these thoughts. Brain dump as often as you can! Whether it’s inside jokes, sweet moments, or things you love about your partner, get it all down. Later, you can sift through and start piecing it together into something amazing that feels like you!
Be YOURSELF When Writing Your Wedding Vows
Your vows should sound like you. Don’t worry about making them sound like they belong in a movie script (unless that’s your style, of course!). Speak from the heart and be authentic. If humor is a big part of your relationship, sprinkle in some jokes. If you’re more sentimental, lean into the mushy stuff. Your vows are about your unique love story.
Express Your Love and Acknowledge Your Partner
While it’s great to personalize your vows, don’t forget to include the essentials. Talk about your partner’s qualities, your promises for the future, and what your relationship means to you. It’s the balance between heartfelt and personal that will make your vows truly special.
Include nicknames you call each other!
Throw in some of your favorite inside jokes only you two know!
Talk about how your partner lights up a room when they walk in, make them feel special.
Include the moment when you knew your partner was "the one" for you!
Practice Reading Your Wedding Vows Out Loud
Once you’ve written your vows, practice reading them out loud. This will help you get comfortable with the flow and catch any tongue twisters. However, don’t stress about memorizing them perfectly. Having a written copy is perfectly fine—what matters most is the sincerity behind your words.
Ask a trusted friend to listen and help you improve your vows to ensure you're conveying all the emotions and feelings you're after!
Capture the Moment with a Videographer
There’s something incredibly special about capturing your vows on video. Whether you read them during the ceremony, a first look, or a private moment, having a videographer there to record this moment is priceless. Seeing yourself on video reading your vows, the emotion on your face, and the way your partner looks at you—paired with music and clips from your day allows you to relive those precious moments over and over again.
Kyndal and Skyler were AMAZING! Super easy to work with and very responsive and easy to get in touch with. We decided late in the planning process to add a videographer and we are so thankful that Kyndal was available. Kyndal and Skyler were everywhere all at once in the best way. Some of the other vendors also mentioned how she was super easy to work with as well. Kyndal was super quick in getting us our teaser and our full video, which we can’t get enough of! 10/10 would recommend.
