Your Guide to a Dreamy PNW Elopement in Oregon

A bride and groom walking along the shore of Cannon Beach, Oregon.

Cannon Beach, Oregon, is one of my all-time favorite U.S. destinations for elopements. This small coastal city in the Pacific Northwest is known for its vibrant art scene, long sandy beach, and, of course, the iconic Haystack Rock.

Imagine sharing your vows with the sound of crashing waves and the fresh ocean breeze flowing through your hair. The PNW is such a romantic and picturesque location to elope. Not only is it beautiful, there's so much to explore! And with all the nearby beaches and parks, you’ll be swooning over this destination!

Tips for Planning Your PNW Elopement in Oregon

The best time to elope in the PNW depends on the vibe you envision for your special day. Summer brings sunshine and warm weather, but late spring, early fall, and winter come with fewer crowds and a quieter, more intimate feel. Between October and May, you might catch a glimpse of wildlife, like adorable puffins in the spring, and enjoy peaceful, secluded beaches. Even if the weather is a bit rainy, it can make for some seriously dreamy elopement photos! For a summer elopement, plan for a weekday or early morning to avoid the crowds. Personally, I think September to mid-October is the sweet spot for gorgeous scenery and fewer people. My biggest tip is to embrace the weather, whatever it brings! Gloomy skies will only make your day feel more magical.

Next, make sure you’re prepared for the nitty-gritty details of eloping in the PNW. You’ll need an Oregon marriage license, an officiant, and two adult witnesses. Apply for your license a few days before your elopement, as Oregon has a three-day waiting period. If you’re planning on having over 50 people attend your wedding, you’ll need a permit from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

Lastly, booking an elopement photographer who specializes in documentary-style photography (like me!) can truly elevate your elopement experience! In a place as breathtaking as the PNW, you’ll want every detail of your love story beautifully preserved. That’s why I love capturing those intimate moments and small details—so you’ll have timeless photos to relive your special day for years to come. You can learn all about my elopement packages here!
